Another healthy cooking technique involves the way you prepare vegetables. Many people tend to overcook them, thereby destroying most of the nutrients. Then they compound the problem by adding a generous garnish of butter and salt. Once you learn how to prepare vegetables the right way, you’ll discover that you don’t need to hide their taste with fat or salt.

Tonsils are two tissue balls located at the back of the throat. They play a vital role and are an important part of the body’s infection fighting mechanism by helping to fight germs and diseases. Tonsils deal with the germs before they reach mouth, throat, or sinuses. When these infection fighters are infected by viruses or bacteria.
The symptoms of tonsillitis are: as the time passes, eating, drinking and swallowing things become difficult. The pain can be accompanied with fever, earache and headache. The tonsils can be seen too. Just open the mouth wide open and the two masses of tissues at the either side of the throat are tonsils. They are usually dark pink in color, but when they get infected they turn red. A white or yellow coating can also be formed on the tonsils. There is an obvious change in voice as it becomes hoarser. The infected child can also develop bad breath. The infected kid can also get abdominal pain and can throw up what he eats. Tonsillitis is caused by both bacterial infection and viral infection.
When the child gets tonsillitis, the parent should give lots of fluids to drink. Smooth food should be consumed to ease the pain caused by swallowing coarse, crunchy, and hard food. Food like soups, ice creams, applesauce, and gelatin are a good option. Spicy food should also be avoided. A humidifier or cool mist vaporizer can be placed in the child’s room as that will make breathing more easily. The kid must be given maximum rest and complete bed rest for at least two days is recommended. The bacteria and viruses cause tonsillitis to spread by sneezing, coughing or touching. The infected child must cover his/her mouth while coughing and sneezing. A disposable tissue can be used instead of a towel or handkerchief. Things such as utensils, towel, clothing, etc. of the sick kid should be separated so that the rest of the family doesn’t get affected.
The doctor inspects the tonsils using a wooden stick known as tongue depressor, which will lower the tongue, so that the doctor can have a good look at the tonsils. After that the doctor checks the ears and nose. Heartbeat will be checked. If the doctor suspects strep, he/she will take a sample of saliva from the back of the throat using a long cotton swab, which can suffer up the child a bit. After a day or two the results are received. Some doctors conduct a similar test known as rapid strep test, which give results within few minutes. Antibiotics are given when the test results come positive for strep. The bacteria get killed only when the course is completed and the correct dosage is taken at correct time.
If virus is the cause of infection, there is no medicine for it and instead the body is capable of fighting the virus on its own. When the tonsils infection becomes frequent and the child finds it difficult to breath because of tonsillitis, it is recommended to get the tonsils removed. But it is the last resort after all other treatments do not do the trick, because tonsils are very important to the body’s immune system.
The tonsils are taken out by surgery known as tonsillectomy. After the surgery, the child won’t suffer from sore throat and breathing problems anymore. The surgery won’t even leave any scars. A day before the surgery, the child cannot eat or drink, to keep the child from throwing up during the operation. The operation is very short and last for only twenty minutes. Because of the anesthesia, the child won’t feel a thing during the operation. And during the surgery, the tonsils are removed using an electric cautery, which is a burning tool, or a cutting tool. After the surgery, the child is given lots of fluids and after a day soft foods can also be given. Usually it takes about two weeks to completely recover from the surgery and the child can return back to normal activities.

Causes of ovarian cysts are many. During a normal menstrual cycle, the ovaries develop follicles each month. Estrogen and progesterone, two hormones which support pregnancy, are produced by these follicles. If a normal follicle continues growing for an extended period of time ovarian cysts can result.
Follicular cysts are among the most usual type. These cysts rarely have symptoms, usually harmless and disappear on their own. Ovarian cysts affecting the follicle are caused by the release of hormones from the pituitary gland that is supposed to initiate the release of an egg. Failure to release the egg makes the follicle continue to grow and develop into a cyst.
Frequent causes of ovarian cysts occur when luteinizing hormones surge and an egg is release. When the egg is released, estrogen and progesterone are created by the ruptured follicle to prepare for the hypothetical conception. When the egg is sealed off, fluid accumulates inside the follicle and becomes what is called a corpus luteum. The corpus luteum will then expand and at that point becomes a cyst.
Corpus luteum cysts usually disappear on their own without treatment within a few weeks. In the meantime, however, it can grow to nearly 4 inches in diameter. It can also bleed into itself or twist the ovary. This can cause severe pelvic and abdominal pain. Moreover, if the corpus luteum cyst fills with blood, the cyst may rupture. This can cause internal bleeding and sudden, sharp pain.
Clomiphene citrate, a commonly prescribed fertility drug to induce ovulation, might be a cause of ovarian cysts. Usage of this drug may result in an increased risk that a corpus luteum cyst might develop. Corpus luteum cysts by themselves do not pose a risk to pregnancy.
Some cysts, such as hemorrhagic or endometrioid cysts develop like other cysts but are classified as such because they contain blood. This blood can result from injury or from the leakage of blood vessels into the egg sac. Causes of ovarian cysts forming in the endometrial tissue include bleeding and sloughing off of endometrial tissue that transplants itself in the ovaries. Blood eventually builds up, rupturing and causing pelvic pain.
Though it is not possible to completely prevent the causes of ovarian cysts, increasing exercise, controlling stress, improving the quality of your diet, and improving your health can help minimize the probability of the development of an ovarian cyst.

It’s that important.
Let me explain:
Five years ago, at the age of 42, I was diagnosed with Major Clinical Depression after the passing of my father and 2 close friends within a period of few months. I was devastated, feeling lost, hopeless and helpless.
The diagnosis was not a shock to me, what threw me out of base was the fact that I had been depressed since I was a child. So I knew I needed help desperately.
I then realized that I didn’t know how to be other than a depressed person. I had not idea of what not being depressed what’s like.
Then, I understood that I had to “rewrite” my mental software so to speak.
Was it scary?, you bet it was. I didn’t know if I would make it to the “finish line” so to speak.
When one is depressed the last thing you think about is, am I depressed?. You are lost on your sad feelings and emotions that is really hard to ask for help, sometimes is takes a family member or a friend to “pull you out” and literally take to the doctor. Other times you can do it yourself but is really, really difficult, I speak from experience.
What threw me out of base was when the doctor told me that I had been depressed pretty much for my entire life, based on my clinical history.
Wow, those are news you don’t want to hear, but after I took sometime to think about it, started to make sense. I could not remember the last time I was truly happy actually.
After “sleeping on it” I came to understand what Dr. Phil says: “you can’t change what you don’t acknowledge”. Knowing that I was depressed was the first step towards recovery.
It wasn’t a bad place to be in, I mean, once you know what’s the matter, all you do is focus on the solution or, in this case, on getting better. Not an easy task but doable.
The long 5 years to recovery from depression are what this article and more to come are all about.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. You are worth it and you will make it through.
Is it easy, no it isn’t. I would not dare to insult your intelligence. Remember I’ve been there.
You will make it. I know.

FOOD AND MENSTRUAL PAIN
Nearly half of all women live with menstrual pain, and in up to 10 per cent it is severe enough to interfere with work and other activities for one to two days every month. Sometimes it diminishes after childbirth, but for many it continues.
Shortly before your period begins, the endometrial cells that form the lining of the uterus make large amounts of prostaglandins. When these cells break down during menstruation, prostaglandins are released. They constrict blood vessels in the uterus and make its muscle layer contract, causing painful cramps. Prostaglandins also enter the bloodstream, causing headache, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
The amount of prostaglandins produced by the endometrial cells in women with menstrual pain and found that it is higher than for other women. The concentration of prostaglandins circulating in the blood is higher, as well. This helps explain why non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs work for menstrual pain. Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs reduce the production of prostaglandins. For most women and their doctors, that is the end of the story. For a few days each month, painkillers battle with prostaglandins. The problem, however, is that for many women the relief is far from complete. They find themselves taking more painkillers than recommend without getting the relief they need. Rather than focus on the prostaglandins themselves, it may help to focus on the cellular ‘factories’ that make them. After all, we know that birth control pills reduce menstrual pain, apparently by reducing the growth of the endometrial cell layer. The smaller this layer of cells is, the less tissue there is to make prostaglandins. In every monthly menstrual cycle the amount of oestrogens in a woman’s body rises and falls. The term oestrogen actually refers to a group of hormones, including estrone, estradiol, and estriol. We will refer to them collectively as oestrogens. Oestrogens are female sex hormones. Think of them as a sort of hormonal fertilizer, making the cells of your body grow. Oestrogens are responsible for breast development at puberty, and each month, they cause the lining of the uterus to thicken in anticipation of pregnancy. If you measured the amount of oestrogens in a woman’s bloodstream as her period ends and a new cycle begins, you would find that it is gradually rising. For about two weeks, it rises toward a peak, then falls quickly around the time of ovulation. It rises again in the second half of the month and then falls just before her next period. The uterus sheds its lining in a menstrual flow, accompanied by cramp pains. HOW FOODS CHANGE HORMONES
The amount of oestrogen in your blood is constantly being readjusted. Some foods push hormone levels up. Others bring them down. Here’s how it works. Fat drives oestrogen levels up. Any kind of fat will do it: chicken fat, fish fat, beef fat, olive oil, canola oil - you name it. It does not matter if it is animal fat or vegetable oil; the more of it there is in your diet, the more oestrogen your body makes. If you cut the amount of fat in your diet, the amount of oestrogen will be noticeably reduced within the first month. Cancer researchers have taken a great interest in this phenomenon, because lowering the level of oestrogen in your blood helps reduce the risk of breast cancer. Less oestrogen means less stimulation for cancer cell growth. If a woman eating a Western diet cuts her fat intake in half, her oestrogen level will be about 20 per cent lower. If you reduce fat even more, your oestrogen level will drop further. Oestrogens are normally filtered from the bloodstream by the liver, which sends them through a small tube, called the bile duct, into the intestinal tract. There, fibre soaks them up like a sponge and carries them out with the wastes. The more fibre there is in your diet, the better your natural ‘oestrogen disposal system’ works. Grains, vegetables, beans, and other plant foods keep waste oestrogens headed toward the exit.
Animal products never have any fibre at all. If fish, chicken, yoghurt, or other animal products make up any substantial part of your diet, there will be little fibre in the digestive tract. The result is disastrous. Waste oestrogens, which should bind to fibre and leave the body, end up passing back into the bloodstream. This hormone ‘recycling’ increases the amount of oestrogen in the blood.
So, by avoiding animal products and added oils, you reduce oestrogen production. And by replacing chicken, skim milk, and other fibreless foods with grains, beans, and vegetables, you will increase oestrogen elimination.
